Upcoming Events

April 16 -- Sugar Showdown: Kick-off spring on the Poste patio with friendly competition and seasonal desserts from DC’s top pastry talent! On Thursday, April 16th, Poste Moderne Brasserie will host some of DC’s top pastry toques for a battle benefiting Brainfood, DC’s leading non-profit youth development organization that uses food and cooking to teach and empower DC teens. Participating pastry chefs include: Casto Unson from Poste Moderne Brasserie; Caitlin Dysart of 2941 Restaurant; Meredith Tomason of Rare Sweets; Deborah Brown of Trummer’s On Main; and Carri-Anne Hamer of Pearl Dive Oyster Bar. These top pastry talents will face off using one core connecting ingredient and judges will vote for their favorite usage of the designated ingredient—roots, from culinary roots to community roots to literal roots. Attendees will be able to sample all desserts from the participating pastry chefs and vote for the dish they deem best for the crowd favorite category. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at Eventbrite: Net proceeds to be donated to Brainfood.

Recipe: Toasted Quinoa Pilaf with Purple Asparagus

I've been trying to eat healthier this time of year to get ready for summer.   When I'm not eating the heavier food at the media dinners, I like to cook some light dishes at home.  This recipe is good for you and tasty.  The purple asparagus has such a beautiful color raw.  It turns a rich deep green when cooked.
